Foaming in many industrial plants can reduce process efficiency and cause environmental problems in waste discharge. Therefore, various additives called antifoam or defoamer are widely used in different technologies such as foam and paper production, food industries, textile dyeing, gas sweetener and dehydration, wastewater treatment and many separation processes to reduce unwanted foam volume.

The antifoam activity is linked to the inlet barrier, which shows how difficult strong antifoam entities are to pierce the gas-water interface and appear on the solution surface. However, in the case of defoamers, the entry barriers are less important because the defoamers are inserted through the gas phase, and there is no obstacle to prevent it from appearing at the gas-water interface.
